Ain’t Always The Cowboy
As a kid back in the fifties and sixties I used to watch all those great westerns that were filmed out in Monument Valley near the Utah and Arizona line. That spectacular scenery that we all have seen with John Wayne, Gene Autry, Hopalong Cassidy, as well as Roy Rogers and Dale Evans movies of the 40’s, 50′, and 60’s.
One of the underlying stories of those westerns, subplots if you will, was the love interest of the hero, the protagonist, the dude wearing the white hat of the movie. That love interest was mostly the little town’s hottest chick, or sometimes it was the good hearted woman that would catch the cowboy’s eyes and capture his heart.
It is the old boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy looses girl subplot.
Many times that subplot was depicted in some fashion as “the Cowboy has itchy feet and he would ride off into the sunset at the end of the movie” after all the bad guys were rounded up and put in “the pokie”, the slammer, the tank, aka, the town jail!
Well, Studley and I are here to tell you that “it ain’t always the cowboy that rides away!!!
Sometimes it is the “better half” that ain’t got a lot of “hang around”! Yep, some ain’t got any settle down in their boots!
So sing it with me children!!!
Her hands wrapped up in mine
Tears rollin’ out of her eyes
No messin’ with a made-up mind
Sun settin’ on goodbye
Yeah, it’s hard to believe
It wasn’t me tryna leave this time
… It ain’t always the cowboy
That ain’t got a lot of hang around
Ain’t got no settle down in their boots
Gone’s just what they do
That restless runnin’
Searchin’ for somethin’
Leavin’ love in the dust of a midnight Chevrolet
It ain’t always the cowboy that rides away!
PEACE, LOVE, AND HARMONY DUDES!
